Recently, new technologies in posterior lamellar keratoplasty have been developed to treat patients with endothelial cornea diseases. The most promising technique is expected to be the posterior lamellar keratoplasty DSAEK / DSEK – Descemet Stripping (Automated) Endothelial Keratoplasty. With this procedure only the damaged endothelial cornea with the descemet membrane (descementorhexis) is removed. After that the donor tissue with the endothelial cornea is transplanted into the anterior chamber. The key benefits of DSAEK / DSEK is the fast recovery of the patient and reduced astigmatism.

For a gentle insertion of the DSAEK donor tissue using the pull-through technique, Geuder has, in cooperation with Professor Peter Rieck of the Charité Eye Clinic in Berlin, developed a new DSAEK insertion instrument. The instrument's hinge design guarantees a controlled folding of the donor tissue without overlapping or compression. During the surgical implantation procedure, the incision is kept open by the guiding plate which also protects the tissue from being crushed while it is being pulled into the anterior chamber. The implantation procedure is suture-free and self-sealing.
